A perfectly nerdy fitness solution

// March 18th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Blog

Personally, I have two major problems with finding a nutrition and workout plan that I’ll stick with.  First, I don’t have a workout partner.  Not only that, but I am taking night classes and am studying by myself either at my apartment or in the library all day, so I end up working out during mid-morning after all of my friends have left for work, which makes it really hard for me to stay motivated.  Secondly, I can’t stand the gym, so I like to go running.  I really like intervals, but it’s next to impossible to keep time while running.

I think that I’ve finally found a solution that will work for getting myself in shape without loosing motivation.  For tracking nutrition, I’ve signed up with a website called Gyminee, which allows me to track not only my food intake, but also my workouts, weight, and goals associated with all three.  Essentially, it tracks the nutritional value of all of the foods that I eat, nets out the exercise that I do, and gives me a visualization of my nutrition in several categories compared with the goals I set for myself.  Right now, I’ve set myself a single nutrition goal: I want to lose 30 lbs.  Right now I’m sitting at around 205 lbs., but I should be able to get down to 175 (what I’m setting as my optimum weight) in six months.  Of course, that’s combined with my workout plan. Exactly the man I want to be

// March 10th, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog

First of all, let me apologize for dropping the ball over the last couple of weeks.  My computer has been in the shop and I haven’t had anywhere to sit down and pour through my throughout enough to write anything coherent.  And in retrospect, that was probably a good thing.

Just before my computer crashed I had a bunch of ideas floating around that I wanted to bring together in a post called “Exactly the man I want to be.”  I had been thinking about something that I imagine is pretty common, especially for people my age: how does one reconcile their own perception of their ideal self with the person that they actually are?  I wondered how it was that I had become the person that I was - somebody so different than what I wanted to be.  The thought was put into my head by a friend who gave me the advice to become the person I wanted to date before looking for that in someone else.  He’s a smart guy, and he probably knew that even though I seemed disinterested in the idea, it stuck in the back of my head until I had some time to really chew on it. Scuba Girl

A video that my friend Stefanie has had sitting on her laptop doing nothing for “months.” Did a simple rotate, added some SFX, and reused the “Girl from Ipanema” remix from my last video. Went from funny to hilarious in about 5 minutes. Continue Reading

Five parties that I’d love to throw

Yeah, getting dressed up and going out downtown is fun.  So is going to a friend’s place to drink.  But the longer that I’ve been in San Diego, the more maniacal I get about doing something new.  It’s a really slippery slope from new and exciting to old and busted for me, so I’m usually the guy (especially in the closest group of my friends in San Diego) to suggest more off-the-wall, spontaneous, and creative to do.

Also, I really hate FIFA. Continue Reading

A recent dream

// February 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog

I did something pretty fun yesterday on Twitter: I blogged the entire day as if I was at Jurassic Park, live-blogging the events of the first movie.  Not only was it a good way to purge myself of some pent-up creative urges, but it helped to pass the long hours of intense studying, too.

The idea came to me because of a dream I had a few nights earlier.  I’m not really one to remember anything about my dreams, so it’s interesting to me that I’ve had such vivid recollections of my dreams as of late.  Maybe one of you can tell me what exactly my crazy dreams mean.

My sister was running alongside me through a lush tropical jungle.  There were two other people running with us, one directly in front and another behind, in a sort of diamond formation.  We were in an all-out sprint, and at this point I didn’t know what from.  Suddenly (and quite instinctively, as none of my dreams have any sort of audible component) I looked behind me just a a perusing tyrannosaurs Rex separated the guy running behind me from his torso.

We kept running. Continue Reading
